WASHINGTON, DC USA -- HEALTHCARE UPDATE NEWS SERVICE™ -- NOVEMBER 24, 2020: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted underlying challenges in data matching and patient identity and, in many cases, slowed public health efforts to respond to and contain the spread of the virus. To explore the impact of COVID-19 on the ability, readiness and challenges associated with data matching and patient identity, eHI conducted a national survey. Healthcare stakeholders across the United States were surveyed and asked to share their views on the challenges faced by their organization to accurately match patient data.

A few things we learned:

  • While a majority of healthcare organizations are currently utilizing patient data matching solutions, only 37% feel that they are doing it accurately.
  • Over 50% of respondents believe that patient data matching is effective at identifying patients at risk of COVID-19.
  • 84% of respondents felt that patient matching could enhance COVID-19 contact tracing efforts.
