WASHINGTON DC USA -- PHARMA UPDATE NEWS SERVICE -- DECEMBER 6, 2007: The National CME Audioconference: Industry-Supported CME under Fire: Mitigating Risk and Enhancing Compliance is scheduled for Wednesday, January 9, 2008. The Audioconference is sponsored by NAAMECC, Health Affairs, Harvard Health Policy Review and RXCompliance Report.
AUDIOCONFERENCE OVERVIEW
|
Continuing medical education (CME) is under intense scrutiny by state and federal prosecutors as well as Congress. The myriad regulations and guidelines governing this area have fueled seemingly endless questions regarding best compliance practices. This audioconference will examine methods to improve compliance and mitigate risk for CME providers and industry alike. The panelists bring a wealth of expertise from senior positions with the HHS OIG, the Department of Justice, the pharmaceutical industry and the CME community.
The North American Association of Medical Education and Communication Companies (NAAMECC) recently assembled a high-profile panel of experts-six attorneys and one physician-with extensive experience as federal and state prosecutors and officials for government agencies including the FDA, OIG, and CMS to assess the volatile regulatory environment surrounding CME. The resulting monograph covers topics ranging from solicited versus unsolicited grants to the relative risk associated with various types of providers. It also summarizes activities that can mitigate risk and makes recommendations for handling investigations.
