PHILADELPHIA PA USA -- POPULATION HEALTH UPDATE NEWS SERVICE -- NOVEMBER 9, 2023: We are pleased to share a video of a presentation on Strategy Mapping: A Breakthrough Approach to Complex, Upstream Prevention Strategies from the recent Twenty-Third Population Health Colloquium which took place on September 18-20, 2023 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, Philadelphia, PA.

It is increasingly recognized that success in population health (at the community or neighborhood level) requires a multifaceted, long-term, systemic strategy that goes beyond isolated programs or even well-intended efforts to achieve collective impact. The complexity of the boundary-crossing challenges requires greater alignment and coordination than have been achieved by most efforts to shift from silos to systems.

Fortunately, there is an emerging set of practices around strategy mapping and community strategy engagement that is allowing large, cross-sector coalitions to co-create and implement strategies at the scale of the challenges. This presentation introduces five specific ways through which strategy mapping and the supporting techniques and tools can enable population health efforts—especially those focused on upstream prevention—to achieve unprecedented positive impact. Each of the 5 ways is supported by a real-world example. The presentation also includes short video presentations by Michael Quinn Patton on how using strategy maps greatly enhances evaluation for large-scale, complex change efforts.

The presentation also shares a web page with a wealth of additional supporting information on strategy mapping and details of the case studies introduced in the presentation.
